Autism: Defuse Inflammatory Statements, Desires, and Decisions with Your Highly Verbal Loved One
Are you the parent of a teenager or adult on the autism spectrum?
Do you struggle with various things that your loved one says when they assert something that they think (“You’re stupid!”, “All teachers suck!”) or want (“I want to punch him in the face!”, “I’m going to break into that store!”)?
Do you have a hard time with some of the decisions they make (skipping school/work, shouting at someone, eating a gallon of ice cream, breaking something on purpose, etc.)?
Do you find yourself in confrontations with your teenager/adult over these issues?
It doesn’t have to be this way.
This go-at-your-own-pace mini-workshop will give you a brand new (and much more effective and productive!) approach to your loved one on the spectrum – particularly with regard to addressing potentially problematic thoughts, desires, statements, or decisions they might make. For most of us, addressing statements our loved ones on the spectrum make – statements that push our buttons, seem socially unwise, or deeply concern us because of potential consequences – can feel incredibly tricky, uncomfortable, fraught with pitfalls, and maybe even unsolvable.
That’s exactly why we created this mini-workshop – so we can introduce you to an approach we call Taxi Driver Decisional Assistance. This approach opens the door to a different way for your loved one on the spectrum to think about their thoughts, desires, statements, and decisions without you having to push, contradict, argue, threaten, scold, or debate them. Doesn’t that sound like an incredible relief?
In this mini-workshop - which comes with lifetime access (as long as the course exists) so you can go back through it again anytime you feel the need to - we’ll show you how to give your highly verbal loved one on the spectrum:
- A venue to explore things (events, feelings, recurring thoughts, ongoing issues, shyness, anxiety) that are bothering them.
- A chance to work through and problem-solve challenges that they are trying to figure out for themselves.
- A way to think through the social and other consequences of potential decisions, extreme responses, magical thinking, belligerence, etc. using a conflict-free analogy and discussion style.
- A place where they can express themselves fully and be deeply understood by you.
-
A method of facilitating much better decision-making while not giving your loved one anything to push against or rebel against.
Complete with super clear explanations and very useful handouts, this mini-workshop will equip you to defuse difficulties, disarm discord, de-escalate disputes, and develop decision-making.
